After Joann's death, her family founded a memorial scholarship foundation in her name, awarding students who've somehow been affected by cancer, and are pursuing a career in the medical field.
Each year, for the past five years, family and members of the community have organized a charity basketball game in efforts to raise funds for the scholarship foundation. Named, Guns and Hoses, this basketball game is a competition between the local Firefighters and Police Officers.
I was fortunate enough to attend this event and witness how many members of the community gathered for Joann and her family, and their efforts to help invest in our current and future college students.
I'm busy working on my blog posts. Watch this space!
